The Special Areas Board is looking for an energetic and highly organized Agricultural Fieldman. This unique position combines municipal and legislated responsibilities, managing agricultural programs in accordance with Alberta legislation and directives from the Special Areas Board. Appointed by the Agricultural Service Board (ASB), the Agricultural Fieldman promotes sustainable agriculture and supports producers in Special Area No. 4. The ideal candidate is proactive, thrives on multitasking, keeps teams aligned, and excels at working independently within a collaborative environment.

Requirements:

  • Lead the delivery of legislated and municipally directed agricultural programs that support sustainable rural development. Implement and manage programs related to weed, pest, disease, and soil and water conservation within Special Area No. 4.
  • Serve as a designated municipal officer under the Weed Control Act, Agricultural Pests Act, and Soil Conservation Act.
  • Conduct field inspections, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide technical guidance to local producers.
  • Coordinate and deliver agricultural extension activities, including workshops, field days, producer publications, and social media outreach.
  • Prepare annual budgets, secure and administer grant funding, and produce technical reports and updates for both provincial and local reporting. Train, and supervise seasonal field staff to carry out agricultural programming effectively and safely. Promote and maintain a strong culture of health and safety.
